Maldives: Police involved in coup

The Republic of Maldives is a small island nation (population = 400,000) southwest of India. The democratically-elected President was forced from office in February, ostensibly over a conflict with the judiciary, but underlying tensions reflect moderate vs. conservative Islamic pressures. The police, not the military, apparently provided the muscle in the coup. Details are sketchy at this point.
