Police & Taliban struggle over poppy fields in Afghanistan

This New York Times article describes fierce conflict in Helmand Province over poppy cultivation. The Taliban is encouraging farmers to produce and getting about 10% of the $4 billion in annual revenue. The police are trying to interrupt cultivation, although they too may be protecting some growers. Most recently police stations and patrols have been attacked by suicide bombers, with several deaths.
