DNA processing slowed in NY

Processing time for DNA evidence in rape cases went from 46 days in 2012 to 89 days in 2013 in the NYC Medical Examiner’s Office, according to this story. Homicide cases also experienced delays, averaging 161 days in 2013. Crimes did not increase — officials cited an increased volume of evidence and tighter documentation requirements as reasons for slower DNA processing.
