NYPD inspector general named

Philip Eure, a nationally-respected expert on police accountability, has been appointed Inspector General to help oversee the New York Police Department. Creation of the new position was opposed by former NY mayor Bloomberg but embraced by new mayor Bill de Blasio. The IG and his 50-person staff are joining territory already occupied by the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board and the PD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
