Public opinion of police mostly positive

“Americans express a relatively high level of confidence in the police, and, perhaps surprisingly, the responses have changed little over the past twenty years,” according to this review of national opinion polls. People tend to have a more positive view of their local police than of police in general, and are much more likely to have high confidence in the police than in the criminal justice system. A significant gap in the views of white and black citizens remains, although it has narrowed over the years.
