The police shooting in North Charleston, SC has spurred some additional thoughts from police leaders and thinkers. This op-ed argues that empathy, compassion, and discretion are more central to good policing than Compstat and numbers. Commissioner Ramsey from Philadelphia thinks this is a defining moment for American policing, and Chief Flynn from Milwaukee reports that the current climate is depressing for police officers.
