LAPD woman police pioneer passes away

Here is the obituary of Fanchon Blake, a Los Angeles PD sergeant whose 1973 lawsuit opened up opportunities for women and minorities in the agency. LAPD veteran-turned-novelist Joseph Wambaugh observed “Blake did a great service when she sued the city … to mitigate the super-aggressive, paramilitary macho myth of the gung-ho cop and introducing the sobering element of maturity in police work.”
