Black in blue in Chicago

This article discusses some of the experiences of black police officers in Chicago and the specific challenges they face, including mixed messages from the community. The PD’s African American Police League, founded in 1968, was disbanded in 2012 in part due to officers’ beliefs that they would be punished for speaking openly about conditions in the department.
