Fear of crime

This article reviews 25 years of Gallup polls on crime and fear of crime. Overall, people think crime is up, but paradoxically seem less worried about it affecting them. Of course, the standard measures of crime have actually been going down for two decades. So the public may just be uninformed, or maybe crime has been increasing — computer crime, identity theft, and other forms of crime that are not counted or regularly reported via the UCR or NCVS platforms.
