Big open data

This article summarizes initiatives underway around the country to make police data more available and more consistent. The main goal is transparency but one reformer warns against “big data hubris” — the assumption that with massive data we’ll be able to calculate our way to more effective policing.

    Increased transparency in law enforcement can be a positive development, but there’s a significant difference between, say, the number of people killed by an agency and detailed information from personnel files.
