Unreliable field tests for drugs

This article reports recent studies finding 20-33% error rates from popular field-testing kits used by police to determine whether substances are illegal drugs. These false-positive results are especially significant because many people subsequently arrested are then persuaded to plea bargain, which can mean that the seized material is never tested in the lab, and thus the convictions are never reconsidered.
