Best police movies

Here’s a change of pace for New Year’s Day. Several lists of “best police movies” can be found online, such as here, here, and here. My 10 all-time personal favorites are listed below with links to trailers. I’ve mostly left out comedies, thrillers, and private eyes, sticking with what I think are interesting portrayals of police and police work. And I’m heavily partial to some older movies. Just one person’s opinion. We’ll return to “just the facts” tomorrow.

  1. High Noon (1952)
  2. In the Heat of the Night (1967)
  3. Dirty Harry (1971)
  4. French Connection (1971)
  5. Fargo (1996)
  6. Serpico (1973)
  7. RoboCop (1987)
  8. Bullitt (1968)
  9. L.A. Confidential (1997)
  10. The Departed (2006)

G: Good list. Just need to add Inside Man, Hell or High Water, and Copland.

Overall, a great list, although I wouldn’t rank High Noon quite so high…just not a big fan of Westerns…

Ash, I think if you had spent more time in the wild west in Hazleton you’d feel differently, but you traded the frontier for the cushy big city.
